Day 57, 2 March 2016

Strong winds and strained back

Woke to very strong winds. The plan had been to travel, but 2 days ago Hilary turned awkwardly and wrenched a back muscle, which had totally stiffened up the morning, which would have made skiing very difficult. The strong winds tend to consolidate the snow and firm up the surface, so in a strange way having an extra days rest for Hilary's back may work in our favour, by having better snow to ski on rather than floundering in deep powder. The owner of the Fjellstue, Helga is being very helpful and we have discovered that Thor Heihadal came here to write his famous book Kontiki.
