Day 44 Feb 18 2016
Search and Rescue
We had a rude awakening in the cabin at 1 o'clock in the morning from Norwegian Search and Rescue, who were looking for a Danish father and son who were new to the Norwegian mountains. Having not been heard from for 5 days their mother (grandmother), not understanding that there is no mobile phone reception in the mountains, she contacted the police saying she was worried. A huge search ensued and they were found safe, but hugely embarrassed in the bedroom next to us! We started the day with an 18km ski down the famous lake Gjende (where Conrad is taking 11 friends in September), which was magical. The next 5 km we made a mistake because we took a route designed for skiers who wanting a brisk workout.. Ups , downs, twists and turns... Not what one wanted after an energetic 18km. Bessheim was a wonderful haven before a longish day tomorrow. Nearly forgot to mention that we bumped into Øve this morning who basically lives in the mountains and catches 1500kilo of fish a year in the lakes. Amazing!
