Day 39, Feb 13 2016
Chalk, Cheese and Lynx footprints
We were both dreading the 16km uphill slog in the same soft deep snow as we suffered yesterday. You can imagine our surprise and delight, when we discovered that the strong winds down the valley had hardened the snow surface, to such an extent that we didn't sink down. It's unbelievable that the snow conditions can vary so much in one day. As they say chalk and cheese! The snow also produced another surprise. Not only did we see the tracks of a herd of reindeer (that know that the tops of knolls are wind blown, and therefore a good place to forage), but even better we saw the tracks of a lynx! Brilliant. The scenery and weather were stunning today, and we both thoroughly enjoyed the skiing through this amazing landscape.
